Interview

10 years and counting

COLERAINE TV catches up with boss Oran Kearney as he reflects on his near 10 year stint at The Showgrounds, the highs and the lows, the spell at St Mirren and his hopes for the future…

Kearney recalls taking the Limavady United job at a young age after injuries curtailed his career at Linfield before moving onto The Showgrounds in February 2011.

The boss also recalls the difficult moments in his spell in charge but acknowledged that the fact he played at the highest level in Northern Ireland has helped with players’ day-to-day lives such as injuries and personal issues.

The Ballymoney man admits he is “hungry for more” success after lifting the Irish Cup and BetMcLean League Cup but knows there will be competition for those competitions as more teams are going to full-time.

Kearney admits the Irish Cup final defeat to Linfield has been the biggest disappointment of his tenure in charge but the memories of that day helped him team capture the trophy a year later.

Reflecting on his and the club’s hopes for the next ten years, Kearney is hopeful of a synesthetic pitch that can be ‘the hub of the community’ moving forward.
