A Game of Fives
COLERAINE defender Stephen O’Donnell was this week tasked to choose his five-a-side team plus two substitutes from the current first-team squad at The Showgrounds..
The rules are simple – Stephen must choose a goalkeeper and four outfield players (not including himself) plus two impact substitutions.
The 25-year-old came up with the following attacking line-up…
GOALKEEPER
Chris Johns:
Chris is the best goalkeeper in the league and is better known as ‘The Cat’. What a season he’s just had. He should still be fresh though as I think he only had about 10 saves to make this season – he’s been well looked after.
OUTFIELD PLAYERS
Aaron Traynor:
Another player who has had an excellent season. Aaron is quick on the turn and fancies himself as a left winger. Does well in the five-a-sides, especially his finishing.
Martin Smith:
Technically he has everything. Both footed and plays passes that other players don’t see. Top player and will pull the strings in this team. This lad just wants to play.
Josh Carson:
This boy looks like Shaqiri, runs like Kante and has played against Ronaldo and Robben. He’s excellent on both feet, loves a step over and will work box-to-box all day.
Darren McCauley:
The big man has had an unbelievable year and scored crucial goals for fun. He’ll be on all the set pieces, including the GK’s, but will be the main man to make it all look good and add some much needed goals to this team.
SUBSTITUTES
Ciaron Harkin:
Jackie could run all day and has a cheeky nutmeg in the locker. He will be straight on when Martin blows up after half-time.
Ian Parkhill:
Skilful, quick and hard working. Parky has the quality to play anywhere in this team.
