Academy cross the Irish Sea

COLERAINE Alexandra 2010’s made the journey over to Scotland to play our Scottish friends Sons of Struth Academy last Saturday…

After meeting the Sons of Struth mascot with high fives, Coleraine Alexandra started the game on the front foot and took the lead after a through ball from Reece sent Lewis on his way and from a tight angle, he made no mistake. Lewis then scored his and Alexandra’s second of the game following good work from Robbie down the left and he crossed for Lewis who picked his spot in the corner to make it 2-0.

A great passing move between Alfie and Reece found Robbie in behind the Sons of Struth defence and with the keeper coming off his line he calmly slotted home to further the advantage. This sparked the Scottish side into another gear and they pulled a goal back, but Lewis and Robbie then scored to make the score 5-1, with Sons of Struth replying twice before the break to put Alexandra 5-3 up at the break.

The second-half started more of the same with Alexandra on the front foot and they scored a sixth with Robbie scoring his second of the game. Alexandra scored again as a corner-kick from Robbie found Reece and after the ‘keeper made a great save, the ball fell to Troy and he made no mistake through a crowded goalmouth. The last goal of the night came three minutes from the end as Charlie never gave up and retrieved the ball on his way to goal and he calmly slotted past the ‘keeper as Coleraine Alexandra ran out 8-3 winners.

Coaches Daryl, Lee, Uel and John would like to thank Christian from Sons of Struth and their players for the game which was played in good spirits and it was a great experience for the Alexandra players.

Coleraine Alexandra would like to take this opportunity and wish Sons of Struth Academy all the best in the future and for their upcoming season.
