COLERAINE FC is delighted to announce the pre-contract signing of James Akintunde…

The attacker will officially become a Bannsider when the January transfer window opens in less than a week’s time.

Hailing from London, Akintunde started his career at Cambridge United and enjoyed loan spells elsewhere, before being on the books at Chester and Maidenhead United on a permanent basis.

The 29-year-old then linked-up with current Coleraine boss Ruaidhri Higgins at Derry City in 2020, with Akintunde then joining Bohemians ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Akintunde was most recently with Finnish side Haka where he spent a season and he now joins Mark Connolly in agreeing a mid-season switch to The Showgrounds.

“James brings so much off and on the pitch,” Higgins said.

“I’ve said that we wanted to bring in a versatile forward player; someone who is equally adaptable at playing in a number of attacking positions.

“I’ve no problem saying this, as a manager you make mistakes, and one of the mistakes that I made in my previous job was letting him leave the club.

“Once he became available again, we wanted to bring him here and he’s so different to the forwards we have here.

“He’s a breath of fresh air, he’s selfless and we are delighted to have him.

“James will bring so much to the group and he’s a player that the supporters will take to.”
