COLERAINE will aim to recover from back-to-back defeats in the Danske Bank Premiership as Ards make the trip to The Showgrounds (KO 3pm)…
The Bannsiders were defeated by Newry City last Friday night as Mark McCabe’s first-half strike proved decisive on the Ballycastle Road. That result sees the Stripes remain in 6th position in the Danske Bank Premiership ahead of the busy festive schedule. As for the visitors, they are at the bottom of the table but secured a share of the spoils last time out at home to Warrenpoint Town. This will be the second meeting between the two sides this season as the first ended in a goalless draw at the Bangor Fuels Arena as Rodney McAree watched on from the sidelines.
After making a return from a lengthy injury in a friendly throughout the week, defender Lyndon Kane is in contention to return to first-team duty. However there is no such joy for Aaron Traynor, Ian Parkhill and James McLaughlin who will miss out. There is a further blow as defender Adam Mullan is absent through suspension. However there was a boost to the squad last week as Steven Douglas and Eoin Bradley returned from two-match bans.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, boss McAree is expecting a difficult test on the Ballycastle Road.
“We know it is going to be a tough game,” he said.
“Colin Nixon has his Ards team well organised and we know what to expect.
“However it is important that we return to winning ways and put on a performance for our supporters.”
