Bannsider Steven joins ‘Cookie’ on charity cycle

DEREK Cook was a little tender on Sunday morning after his charity cycle!

By: Michael Anderson

The former Coleraine striker completed the 56 mile trek and he had company along the way from a Coleraine fan!

Steven Adams, whose family still live in the town, has been a GP in Ardrossan for 23 years but he still closely follows the fortunes of the Bannsiders and watches them whenever he gets the opportunity to get home.

After I told Derek that Steven is a keen cyclist, he contacted him and the ‘Doc’ was only too happy to help out.

“It was great to have Stephen alongside Graham Hamilton (ex Winton Rovers) and myself,” said Derek.

“It was tough going but the scenery was stunning and of course we reminisced about Coleraine.

“Nice to have the extra security of our own medical team as well!”

Steven – Merv to his friends – enjoyed the day out.

“There were plenty of laughs although we were cold and wet towards the end.

“One of the ferries cancelled too so we had to re-route.”

The trio enjoyed a few well deserved refreshments on completion.

Proceeds from Saturday’s charity cycle and Sunday’s game between Winton Rovers and Glentoran Legends will go to two charities…Beautiful Inside Out and Butterfly Club…which help young kids with mental health issues and suicide awareness.

Anyone wishing to donate can contact Derek by e mail at cookderek@hotmail.com for details.
