Bannsiders aiming for Solitude success

COLERAINE are on their travels tomorrow afternoon as they take on Cliftonville at Solitude (KO 3pm)…

The Bannsiders suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday night as they were edged out 3-2 by Crusaders in the BetMcLean.com League Cup. However, in the Danske Bank Premiership, the Stripes stretched their lead at the top to five points courtesy of a 2-1 win against Linfield. As for the visitors, they have won their previous five fixtures in all competitions and currently occupy 5th position in the table.

In the previous meeting between the two sides this season, Coleraine ran out 2-0 victors at The Showgrounds in August. After a scoreless first-half, strikes from Josh Carson and Jamie McGonigle gave the Stripes a deserved three points against Barry Gray’s men.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney will be without the services of Lyndon Kane (metatarsal), Brad Lyons (facial injury), James McLaughlin (knee) and Eoin Bradley (knee). Meanwhile, latest signing Martin Smith will be unavailable due to international clearance. However, there will be a boost for the squad as Josh Carson returns from a three-match suspension.

The boss is expecting a ‘tough game’ in North Belfast, but will welcome the return of Josh Carson to the matchday panel.

“We will be expecting a tough game,” Kearney revealed.

“We have a few aches and pains that we hope will be fresh for Saturday.

“It’s important we have everyone fit as we are down to the bare bones.

“It will be a massive bonus having Josh Carson back.

“Having not played for a few weeks he will bring a lot of hunger and desire.”
