PATRICK Burns says he has been impressed by the professionalism and standards at The Showgrounds after signing with the club…

The 24-year-old has celebrated his birthday in fine style after his switch to the club was confirmed earlier today.

Burns, who has previous Irish League experience at Glenavon and Cliftonville, says he is eager to hit the ground running and that his new team-mates have made him feel more than welcome since he started training with the Bannsiders.

“I’m really excited,” he said of the move.

“The Irish League this season is really competitive and I’m excited to get back involved.

“It’s a league I’ve always been a big fan of and I’ve experience playing in it with both Glenavon and Cliftonville. I owe a great deal of thanks to both clubs, I loved my time at each and always gave my all.

“I’ve missed playing in the league recently, but I was fortunate to explore some great opportunities in America and pursue goals outside of football, which have been invaluable experiences for me. I’ve always enjoyed playing in big games, earning points, and keeping clean sheets, and I’m excited to get back to it.

“I’ve been fortunate to have trained with the lads over the Christmas period and they have made me feel really welcome.

“I’ve been impressed by the standards and professionalism around the place and it has every necessary ingredient to take off. Hopefully I can play a small part in contributing to that.”

Coleraine have entered full-time status for the first time this season and Burns believes training every day will help him develop as a player both on and off the pitch.

Burns helped Cliftonville win the Irish Cup last season and spent several years in the USA, where he combined his studies with playing football for Notre Dame.

He reflected: “I know a lot of the players here from playing against them and have played alongside some of them for Northern Ireland teams growing up. It’s exciting to now be a player for Coleraine, especially as the club embraces a full-time model.

“I’m at the point now where I’ve studied and worked hard away from football but I want to become the best player that I can be and I believe being here will help me kick on to another level.

“I think there’s more in my performances and another gear to reach and I’m hoping to do that here.

“Coleraine has always been a formidable team to face, and I’m delighted to now be a part of it. I’m fully committed to giving my all to contribute to the club’s success.”
