Bannsiders hoping to make a ‘Gr-Eight’ impression at SuperCup NI

COLERAINE FC would like to wish all eight players at this year’s SuperCup NI the very best of luck…

There was a boost for first-team midfielder Matthew Kirk who was called-up to the Northern Ireland under-18 squad to face Manchester United at The Showgrounds.

Kirk – who joined the Stripes last month from Newbuildings United – was a part of the recent Northern Ireland Centenary Shield squad and will face the Red Devils on Saturday night (KO 5pm).

In the Premier Section, the Bannsiders have six players in the County Londonderry squad. Goalkeeper Richard Purcell is joined by Sam McClelland, Luke McKendry, Andy Whiteside, Eamon Devaney and Alexander Gawne.

Co. Londonderry open their campaign with a fixture against Osasco at Limavady (KO 7pm), before taking on Otago on Tuesday at Seahaven in Portstewart (KO 7pm). The final group game on Wednesday will take place at the same time and venue as Tuesday night against Co. Armagh.

In the Junior Section, Ben Moore is a part of the Co. Londonderry squad who play Chivas Guadalajara, First Choice Soccer and Co. Tyrone.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney admits he is delighted at the strong number of players the Bannsiders have competing at the SuperCup NI.

“It is great to see so many of our lads in the tournament,” Kearney added.

“It will be vital in their development and it is a sign that the club is progressing.

“We wish them all a successful tournament.”
