Bannsiders host league leaders

COLERAINE are still in search of their first win under manager Rodney McAree as the Bannsiders welcome high flying Glenavon to The Showgrounds (KO 3pm)…

The Bannsiders will be looking for a return to winning ways after drawing for a fourth successive match last weekend against Newry City. As for the Lurgan Blues, they sit top of the table – seven points ahead of the Stripes – and they have won their last four games, including last weekend’s success against Dungannon Swifts.

The two sides met each other on four occasions last season with three draws and one win for the Stripes. The first meeting was in September 2017, with the Bannsiders running out 4-2 winners at the Showgrounds. This was followed up by a 2-2 draw at Mourneview Park in November 2017, a 1-1 draw at The Showgrounds in February and the final clash ending goalless.

Coleraine manager Rodney McAree has been given a boost with the return of defenders Gareth McConaghie and Aaron Traynor from injury. There is no such joy for Josh Carson who remains sidelined, alongside Lyndon Kane and the suspended Eoin Bradley.

Speaking ahead of the clash, McAree was full of praise for Glenavon’s attacking threat.

“Glenavon have a lot of pace in attacking areas – we know it’s going to be tough on Saturday,” said McAree.

“We have to approach the game with positivity and work extremely hard.”
