Chris Johns agrees a new two-year contract extension

Bannsiders in Safe Hands

COLERAINE FC is delighted to announce that Chris Johns has agreed a new two-year contract extension with the club…

The deal will see the goalkeeper remain at the Bannsiders until the end of the 2019-20 season. Johns arrived at The Showgrounds in January 2016 and has gone on to make 71 appearances for the Stripes.

The fans’ favourite and former Southampton trainee has established himself as one of the best ‘keepers in the Irish League, and boss Kearney is delighted to have his number one sign this new deal.

“It has been a brilliant partnership in the fact that Coleraine has been good for Chris and vice versa,” Kearney said.

“Chris arrived with a reputation and a point to prove after being courted by numerous Irish League clubs.

“We tried very hard to sign him and we had full faith in his ability. I told him that he wouldn’t be here to compete, but to be our number one goalkeeper.

“He has a fantastic attitude for the game and is growing into one of the best ‘keepers in the league.”

Johns was equally as happy to agree this new two-year extension.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Coleraine and signing a new deal was pretty straightforward,” Johns added.

“Oran has instilled me with a lot of confidence and working with Michael Doherty has made things easier for me.

“We have made a great start to the season and long may it continue.”
