DEAN Shiels says he wants his Coleraine team to take the momentum gained from the last two games into tomorrow night’s Premiership fixture at home to Glentoran…

After suffering a disappointing exit to Dungannon Swifts in the Irish Cup, Shiels’ boys have rallied in their last two league encounters after picking up four points against Cliftonville and Carrick Rangers.

Whilst acknowledging that the Glens are one of the most in-form teams at present, Shiels wants his players to continue their pursuit up the league standings.

“The lads are feeling good about themselves and there’s a good feeling amongst the camp,” he said.

“Over the last few weeks the performances have been pretty good but we are now starting to get points on the board.

“I thought we were outstanding against Cliftonville and then dug in and scrapped to win at Carrick – so we are looking to build on that.

“Every team outside Linfield and maybe Glentoran are searching for momentum and we’re now feeling like we have some.

“Hopefully we can keep that motoring and build on that.”

Coleraine have also kept back-to-back clean sheets and Shiels commented on his recruitment in the January transfer window as five new faces made their way to the Ballycastle Road.

He stated: “We knew the first part of the season was going to be difficult.

“Now it’s about trying to get some stability and keep improving.

“When you make signings in January, you’re trying to embed them as quickly as possible and that takes time.

“We are starting to see the benefits already from strengthening in the defensive areas and it’s no coincidence that we are starting to see less goals against.”
