COLERAINE will hope to book their spot in the third round of the Northern Ireland League Cup as they host Annagh United this evening (KO 7:45pm)…

Northern Ireland League Cup

Overview:

The Stripes were left frustrated last time out as they were held to a goalless draw by Institute at The Showgrounds. Despite having chances through Ben Doherty, Aaron Canning and Josh Carson, the Bannsiders couldn’t grab all three points and had Eoin Bradley dismissed in the first-half. As for the visitors, they weren’t in action last weekend but recently reached the second round of the Irish Cup after a 4-1 win against Derriaghy CC. The Mid-Ulster side have a few familiar names in their ranks, including ex-Coleraine star David Scullion and former Portadown midfielders Niall Henderson and Sean Mackle.

Recent meetings:

The two sides have never faced each other in competitive action but the Bannsiders commenced last season’s League Cup run with a 2-1 win against Ballyclare Comrades. After falling behind, the Stripes pulled level through Jamie McGonigle’s long range effort, and after the game looked destined to go to extra-time, Ian Parkhill stepped up to score a delightful winner with the last kick of the match. Coleraine would be knocked out in the next round as they were beaten on penalties by Glentoran at The Oval.

Team News:

Emmett McGuckin is expected to be handed his first competitive start as Oran Kearney will be without the services of James McLaughlin and Eoin Bradley through suspension. There will also be a late check on defender Gareth McConaghie who wasn’t involved against Institute due to a knock.

Manager’s Thoughts:

“The key thing for Emmett is that he has waited for his opportunity and he’ll get one on Tuesday night,” Kearney said.

“Annagh will be one of the favourites to win Championship Two, with the likes of Sean Mackle and a few other former Portadown players.

“They will certainly be no mugs and it’s important we are right on it on Tuesday night.”

Supporters are reminded that entry is via a cash gate.

Admission has been set at £8 adults, £5 concessions.
