Club Appointments

COLERAINE FC were delighted to confirm new club appointments at last weekend’s Corporate Lunch…

The lunch marked a significant milestone for a number of individuals closely associated with the club throughout the years, most notably former club Chairman Hugh Wade.

Hugh, well known in business circles as head of a very successful funeral directors, was announced as the Irish League club’s new President in recognition of the countless years of work he has done for the Ballycastle Road club.

He succeeds the sadly missed Andy McGowan in the position.

Two new Vice Presidents were also unveiled – Nevin Oliver and Frankie Moffatt.

Nevin, of course, was one of the individuals instrumental in keeping the club alive during difficult times several years ago, while Frankie is a former player who enjoyed great success with the Stripes.

Current club chairman Colin McKendry paid tribute to all three, thanking them for their contribution to the club over many years before adding that he was looking forward to working with them in the years to come.

“The last couple of years we have unfortunately lost club members who are very much legends within Coleraine Football Club,” he told guests at the Corporate Lunch.

“Most notably, our Club President, Mr Andy Magowan, at a time of need for Coleraine Football Club, stood up and put his money where his mouth was and he is sadly missed.

“He was a very good guy to run things past, he was a great Board member and was a sounding board for myself before I became Chairman.

“We have also lost a club legend and someone who was with Coleraine Football Club before I was born and that was our Vice President Mr Victor Hunter.

“I’ve asked Hugh Wade to become Club President to replace Andy and Hugh gratefully accepted. Hugh has been involved with Coleraine Football Club for a long time and we are grateful he has accepted.

“Nevin Oliver was involved in the saving of the club and there were two or three guys who put their neck on the block at that time to ensure that Coleraine are able to do this, so Nevin has gratefully accepted our offer to become an Honorary Vice President.

“Nevin does an awful lot of work behind the scenes that no-one sees and he has been looking after a number of initiatives for us.

“To replace Victor in the playing side of things is a good friend of mine, not only in football but business, and so forth over the last lot of years is Mr Frankie Moffatt.

“Frankie represented Coleraine Football Club, won trophies and thankfully Basher has agreed to take on this role and I’m very honoured that these three gentlemen have accepted as they represent what the club is all about.”
