Club Statement

COLERAINE FC would like to endorse a statement made by the PSNI in regards to disorder and anti-social behaviour at The Showgrounds in recent weeks…

Ahead of back-to-back games on the Ballycastle Road, the Club would like to remind supporters to follow the club with pride and give Oran Kearney’s side the best possible backing from the terraces.

The Club appreciates the support from our fans that travel near and far and we simply want everyone attending to have the best matchday experience as possible at The Showgrounds.

A PSNI statement read: “There has been an increase in disorder and anti-social behaviour related to local football matches recently.

“As well as public order legislation there are some offences directly linked to spectator behaviour which you might not be aware of, the information from the Irish FA below highlights some of them.

“The anti-social behaviour has been caused by a minority of fans, unfortunately, recently the fans we have come into contact with have been young people and we are appealing to parents to talk to your children about their behaviour while at football matches.

“The consequences of a criminal conviction can have a long term impact on job prospects and travel opportunities, never mind possibly being banned from football matches.

“We will continue to work in partnership with Coleraine FC to prevent this behaviour from spoiling the match day experience for the rest of the fans.”

Chairman, Colin McKendry, added: “Coleraine FC is a community club that is open to all and we appeal to a small minority of fans to behave accordingly.

“We do not condone any form of anti-social behaviour and it will not be tolerated.

“We have been very blessed to have had such a fantastic support in recent years and we want that to continue.

“We have enjoyed fruitful conversations with the PSNI in recent weeks to try and address these issues.”
