HARRY Evans says he can’t wait to test himself in a different setting after agreeing a loan deal at The Showgrounds…
The shot-stopper has agreed a temporary switch on the Ballycastle Road from parent club Derby County.
The 20-year-old previously trained at the club last month and he feels he is now at the perfect place to gain even more senior appearance.
“Yeah, really excited,” he said.
“I came over for a week at the start of pre-season and really enjoyed it.
“I thought the set-up was really good and the lads were good, so I was glad to come back.
“I think Michael (Dougherty) is a really good coach.
“I didn’t know what to expect coming over in terms of what the coaching or anything will be like but it’s been really good and he’s similar to coaches I’ve had before.
“I’ll be honest, I didn’t know a great deal about the Irish League before I came over, but then one of my best mates at Derby is from Portadown and he told me a lot about the league.
“The lads have filled me in, so I’m getting up to date with it more now.”
Evans, who has been with Derby since the age of six, says he is adaptable at playing out from the back and outlined his short-term goals with the Bannsiders.
“I’d definitely say the main job is still to keep the ball out of the net but I am comfortable with the ball at my feet and to play out from the back,” he added.
“But obviously it’s down to the manager and what style he wants to play.
“I want to play as many games as possible but just to be more around the first team environment, in a different setting.
“I’ve been at Derby for a while and I’ve been lucky enough to be with the first team quite regularly now for the past few seasons.
“I think there is that sense of the unknown but I enjoyed the first week coming over and I’ve enjoyed it since being back over, so I wouldn’t say it’s out of my comfort zone.”
