COLERAINE Women picked up a superb victory on the road as they beat Ballynahinch Olympic in NIFWA Division 2 last night…

The Bannsiders made the lengthy journey to league leaders Ballynahinch in a meeting between the top two in the division.

On a warm evening, Coleraine found themselves 1-0 down with just three minutes played but found an equaliser soon after when Shannon Friel latched onto a through ball and kept her composure to level the scores.

Despite Coleraine pressing forward, they were sucker-punched at the other end as the hosts restored their lead with a close-range finish just before the half-time whistle.

However, the Bannsiders produced a superb second half performance to take the game away from Ballynahinch and leave with a deserved three points.

It all started when Coleraine made it 2-2 on 67 minutes as Friel equalised with a fine effort before she was heavily involved soon after as her goal-bound effort was headed into the net by a Ballynahinch defender for an own goal.

The victory was then sewn up as a fine team performance from everyone involved led to Chelsea Moore making it 4-2 with a little more than ten minutes remaining.
