MICHAEL Hegarty would be the match winner as his 25th minute strike sealed all three points at Windsor Park in March 2011…

Date:

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Result:

Linfield 0-1 Coleraine

Goal –  Hegarty (’25 mins)

Report:

Linfield now lead the Premiership only on goal difference from Crusaders after losing at home to Coleraine for the third season in a row.

Michael Hegarty ran through to score the winner in the 25th minute after Aaron Canning’s through ball.

Before that, Linfield midfielder Philip Lowry struck the crossbar from a great position and also had an effort disallowed for offside.

In the second half Linfield’s Robert Garrett hit the bar after a fine run.

Near the end Coleraine had a penalty claim turned down when Leon Knight went down as keeper Alan Blayney dived at his feet.

Linfield started brightly and had a good chance to take the lead in the eighth minute but Philip Lowry’s shot hit the Coleraine crossbar.

Lowry did have the ball in the net soon after that but was flagged offside in following up after keeper Gavin Cullen had palmed out Michael Gault’s shot.

Coleriane’s match-winning goal came when Canning’s defence-splitting pass sent Hegarty through and he ran on to beat Blues keeper Blayney.

It was Hegarty’s first goal for Linfield, his last score being for Dungannon Swifts in January 2009.

At the end of the first half, Linfield defender William Murphy needed treatment for a head injury after being hit by David Ogilby’s high boot.
