The feel good factor at Coleraine continues!

Backed by a bumper crowd, the Bannsiders deservedly defeated Larne to avenge defeat on the opening night of the season.

Oran Kearney’s men delighted the huge and noisy home support with a crucial victory.

As expected, it was a cagey start from both teams.

Former player Ben Doherty had the first opportunity for Larne but he pulled his 13th minute shot past the post.

Jamie Glackin, however, showed exactly how it should be done as he fired Coleraine in front after 25 minutes.

The Larne defence failed to clear a ball into the box and ‘Glacks’ pounced to break the deadlock.

It took Larne just ten minutes to get back on level terms.

Mark Randall was given too much space to thread a pass through to Doherty and he cooly slotted past Gareth Deane.

What one former player can do, so too can Conor McKendry!

The midfielder collected Patrick Kelly’s pass three minutes before half time and his drive took a wicked deflection off Cian Bolger  before nestling in the corner of the net.

Larne’s response was almost immediate and should have resulted in an equaliser. Tomas Cosgrove picked out Davy McDaid sixty seconds before the interval but he  shot straight at Deane from close range.

Patrick Kelly almost got the Bannsiders off to a perfect start within two minutes of the restart but Rohan Ferguson got down to block his shot.

Josh Carson then flung himself to get on the end of Aaron Traynor’s 55th minute cross but hooked wide.
Carson was involved as Coleraine stretched their lead after 58 minutes.

He was tripped by Kofi Balmer and Lyndon Kane stepped up to convert the penalty.

The excellent Carson was the out of luck with a rasping 62nd minute drive which cannoned off the upright.

Kelly almost rounded off a fine individual performance when sent clear by Glackin with a quarter of an hour remaining but his shot was straight at Ferguson.

Larne tried to salvage something late on but the ever reliable Deane made a great point blank stop to deny McDaid as Coleraine claimed a valuable victory.

There was still time for Eoin Bradley to come off the bench to make his 200th appearance for the club.
