Down Memory Lane
WITH the on-going help of club historian Hunter McClelland, colerainefc.com brings you the latest instalment of the ‘Down Memory Lane’ series as Coleraine romped to a heavy win against Linfield in the City Cup…
Date:
Saturday, March 4, 1967
Result:
Linfield 1-5 Coleraine
Goals – Thomas; Jennings (2), Curley, Gaston (2)
Report:
Linfield slumped to the worst defeat of the season at Windsor Park on Saturday against a lively Coleraine side that exploited a woefully weak Blues’ defence.
All credit to a very sharp Coleraine side. They were a calm, controlled team, rarely shaken and nearly always in complete control during an interesting 90 minutes.
Star of the Coleraine side was hard-working right-half Ivan Murray. His distribution was excellent, his control in mid-field complete and he came through this game with top honours.
Line-ups:
LINFIELD: McGonigal, Patterson, White, Andrews, Hatton, Leishman, Ferguson, Wood, Thomas, Scott, Shields.
COLERAINE: Hunter, Gordon, Campbell, Murray, McCurdy, Peacock, Dunlop, Curley, Halliday, Gaston, Jennings.
Referee:
J Butler (Sunderland)
