Down Memory Lane

WITH the on-going help of club historian Hunter McClelland, colerainefc.com brings you the latest instalment of the ‘Down Memory Lane’ series as the Bannsiders came from behind to beat Institute in October 2002…

Date:

Saturday, October 19, 2002

Result:

Institute 1-3 Coleraine

Goals – Semple (’12 mins); Hamill (’45 mins), Gorman (’61 mins), Beatty (’71 mins)

Report:

Coleraine picked up their first win in five league outings with this win over Institute at the usually impenetrable YMCA Grounds.

It all started so well for ‘Stute, though, when Ryan Semple fired them in front after 12 minutes with a shot from the right hand side. Coleraine levelled right on the stroke of half-time courtesy of a thunderous 25-yard free-kick from
Rory Hamill.

The visitors came out all guns blazing after the break and deservedly moved in front just after the hour when Tony Gorman blasted a 25-yard drive past John Connolly.

Then, ten minutes later, they added a third from a Stephen Beatty penalty awarded when John Curran handled inside the area.
