Down Memory Lane

WITH the on-going help of club historian Hunter McClelland, colerainefc.com brings you the latest instalment of the ‘Down Memory Lane’ series as the Bannsiders were knocked out of the League Cup by Linfield on aggregate in November 2001…

Date:

Tuesday, November 20, 2001

Result:

Coleraine 2-1 Linfield

Goals – Tolan (‘4 mins & ’28 mins); Scates (’55 mins)

Report:

Gareth Scates’ 55th minute goal ensured Linfield’s progression to a big two decider against Glentoran in next Tuesday’s CIS Cup final.

Two first half goals from Jody Tolan levelled the tie at the Coleraine Showgrounds as the home club threatened to achieve a famous victory. However, Scates tapped in Pat McShane’s cross in the 55th minute to ease Linfield worries.

Tolan had put Coleraine ahead in the fourth minute after he latched onto a long clearance from his goalkeeper Ian Martin. The former Cliftonville striker hit Coleraine’s second goal in the 28th minute by nodding home a Stuart Clanachan cross.
