Result:

Larne 1-2 Coleraine

Goals – Hunter (’19 mins); Gaston (’45 mins), Boyce (’81 mins)

Report:

COLERAINE are finally off and running following this defeat of Larne at Inver Park…

With their only victories this season coming in the North-West Cup three points were crucial for Marty Quinn’s side after last week’s heavy loss to Lisburn Distillery.

Larne moved in front, though, on 19 minutes through Marty Hunter who was able to stab the ball home at the back post from a Noel Corrigan free-kick.

However the Bannsiders levelled almost on the half-time whistle when veteran defender Paul Gaston crept in unnoticed at the far post to convert a cross from the left.

Both sides had opportunities in the second half to seize the advantage but it was the visitors who came through on 81 minutes to secure the points.

A bout of poor defending from Larne saw the ball travel as far as Darren Boyce who duly made the most of the opening to blast an unstoppable shot past Chris Keenan.

And Larne’s afternoon deteriorated even further after that with Anthony Lagan’s dismissal for an off-the-ball incident.
