COLERAINE would survive a late scare from Ards as they dug out a 2-1 win back in October 2013…

Date:

Saturday, October 5, 2013

Result:

Coleraine 2-1 Ards

Goals – Harkin (’54 mins), Jennings (’67 mins); McDowell (’75 mins)

Report:

After going two goals down in the second half Coleraine expected their opponents to roll over but bold Ards stunned the Bannsiders by pulling one back.

They were only denied a share of the spoils by some defensive heroics from Kearney’s side and defender David Ogilby in particular

But with only two wins from their opening 10 games, the nomadic Co Down outfit are now two points adrift at the bottom.

Ards’ resistance was only broken when Stephen Lowry was sent to ground in the box by Craig McMillen and his midfielder partner Ruairi Harkin successfully fired in a 54th minute penalty.

Striker Shane Jennings volleyed in the second after top scorer Gary Browne had headed Gareth Tommons’ lobbed cross back into the danger area. But when Paul McDowell pulled a goal back after home stopper Wayne Drummond blocked Andy Mitchell’s shot, it looked as though Ards might be spoiling for a fight.

Ogilby was forced to clear a McDowell header off the line and the unmarked Mitchell headed over the bar.
