COLERAINE would secure their first win in 13 attempts against Ballinamallard United as James McLaughlin and Jamie McGonigle bagged second-half goals against the visitors in August 2015…

Date:

Friday, August 28, 2015

Result:

Coleraine 2-1 Ballinamallard United

Goals – McLaughlin (’70 mins), McGonigle (’90+1 mins); Martin (’28 mins)

Report:

Jamie McGonigle struck an injury-time winner as Coleraine came from behind to beat 10-man Ballinamallard.

Liam Martin fired home a first-half opener for the Mallards before James McKenna was red-carded for a poor tackle two minutes after the restart.

Substitute James McLaughlin finished from close range to level and striker McGonigle won it with a curling shot into the bottom corner.

The victory moves the Bannsiders up to fourth in the Irish Premiership.

Coleraine left it late to secure their first Premiership win over the Co Fermanagh side at the 13th attempt.

Leon Carter headed over for the visitors in the game’s first clear opening while Bannisders teenager Brad Lyons fired just wide.

Martin was denied by keeper Michael Doherty before he made the breakthrough on 28 minutes, slotting in from Ryan Campbell’s cross.

The game turned on McKenna’s straight red-card for a lunge on Ruairi Harkin, although Doherty needed to make a fine save to keep out Michael McCrudden’s effort.

McLaughlin made an immediate impact after his introduction, slotting in at the backpost from a Lyons cross in the 70th minute.

A classy finish from McGonigle secured the three points, the forward showing composure to slip the ball beyond keeper Alvin Rouse in the first minute of added time.
