Date:

Saturday, February 20, 1982

Result:

Coleraine 2-0 Limavady United

Goals – Healy (’31 mins), Mullan (’35 mins)

Report:

Coleraine secured their place in the semi-final of this season’s Irish Cup with a hard fought 2-0 victory over ‘B’ Division hopefuls Limavady United at the Ballycastle Showgrounds.

But United, conquerors of Glenavon in the first round, made the Bannsiders fight all the way in an entertaining tie which had the big crowd on its toes for most of the 90 minutes.

Despite the fact that United’s second-half substitute. Nevin Deery was sent-off in injury time and four other players had their names taken, it was never a ‘rough’ game.

Limavady did themselves proud and their forward line, led by former Coleraine and Derry City striker, ‘Chang’ Smith, gave the Irish League leaders a busy time.

Limavady dominated the first half-hour and then let Coleraine sneak two quick goals before the interval which were enough to see them through to the semi-finals in March.

A Kevin Mahon cross led to the opening goal after 31 minutes, Felix Healy on hand to score when Trevor Thompson blocked Des Dickson’s effort. Gerry O’Kane did the spadework for the second goal which was scored by Limavady man, Pat Mullan.

Jim O’Hea’s side put up a plucky display and denied Coleraine a third goal when Mullan (twice) and Healy went close.

Line-ups:
