PATIENCE would prove vital as Coleraine struck twice in the last twenty minutes to defeat Carrick Rangers in September 2016…

Coleraine 2-0 Carrick Rangers

Goals – McLaughlin (’70 mins), McCauley (’90 mins)

Coleraine’s shooting stars look to be going places – even when the going gets tough!

It took Oran Kearney’s men 70 minutes to break down Carrick Rangers’ stubborn resistance but two late goals secured a third consecutive league win.

“We’ve only conceded two goals in our last five matches in all competitions and scored 13 goals so I’ve no complaints,” said Kearney.

“The difference is that we have addressed our lack of goalscoring power over the past two seasons. We carry much more threat now and that is a big positive.”

Kearney did admit he was frustrated at reaching half-time without a goal, thanks in no small part to a magnificent performance by Rangers custodian Brian Neeson.

“We all know that no team can dominate a match for 90 minutes but we remained patient and that was key.”

James McLaughlin achieved the breakthrough before Darren McCauley’s security strike.

Rangers manager Kieran Harding could see positives despite defeat.

“We looked more of a threat going forward in the second half but did not do enough to get on the scoresheet,” he said.

“I was pleased to see an improvement in our performance.”
