DAVY O’Hare would save a last minute penalty as Coleraine sealed a dramatic 1-0 win against Linfield at Windsor Park…

Date:

Friday, February 27, 2009

Result:

Linfield 0-1 Coleraine

Goal – Tommons (’67 mins)

Report:

A 67th-minute goal by Gareth Tommons saw Coleraine beat Linfield 1-0.

Richard Gibson wasted Coleraine’s best chance of the first half while Michael Carvill was denied by Davy O’Hare.

Tommons broke the deadlock when he tapped in from a few yards out after Alan Mannus was unable to hold onto Stephen Carson’s shot.

Kevin McHugh missed a great chance, Robert Garrett shot inches over and O’Hare saved McHugh’s penalty in added time after Kyle McVey had handled.

Stephen Douglas swung in a dangerous cross from the right in the 12th minute but O’Hare reached the ball first.

Carson’s cross from the left on 26 minutes found Gibson but he wasted the chance.

O’Hare’s save from Carvill ensured that the game remained scoreless at the interval.

After Tommons found the net, McHugh missed an open goal from close range and then Garrett shot from distance but his attempt flew inches over.

Four minutes into injury-time McVey handled inside the area, but O’Hare saved McHugh’s spot-kick.

The referee consulted with a linesman before immediately blowing the final whistle.
