Evan leaves with best wishes

COLERAINE FC can confirm that Evan McLaughlin has been recalled from Derry City following his loan spell at The Showgrounds…

The winger joined the Bannsiders in the summer but Derry City have activated a return clause in that agreement and he will return to The Brandywell ahead of the new League of Ireland season.

McLaughlin made 24 appearances during his time on loan and netted six times – including a deadly brace on his debut against Cliftonville.

However, the 20-year-old has now been recalled by the Candystripes and boss Oran Kearney admits he loved working with the talented wide man.

“Evan’s deal meant he was with us until the end of the season but Derry had the option of bringing him back and they have activated that with immediate effect,” he said.

“Ruaidhri has plans to bring Evan into their first-team squad ahead of the new season down south and we have to respect that.

“I wish Evan all the best, I have loved having him here and I would love to bring him back in the future.

“We loved having him, he was brilliant in the changing room and a great fit for us, and we were glad to have helped kick him on.”
