Five-Star Ladies triumph

COLERAINE Ladies made it two wins in succession as they proved too strong for Ballymacash Ladies at Rugby Avenue…

Coleraine Ladies secured their second win of the season when they hosted Ballymacash Ladies on Thursday night at home.

Both sides started evenly with no real chances as both defences did well keeping the opposition out. Kirsty Gillis worked hard down the left hand side to stretch the play wide and it finally paid off when she played the ball inside to Olivia Stewart and she slotted home to give Coleraine the lead going into the break.

Ballymacash nearly found an equaliser straight away when their pacey forward found herself in behind the defence and ready to shoot when Shairee McVey just about made the tackle inside the penalty area. The score remained 1–0 at the break.

The second half was a different affair as Coleraine dominated from the start. Abbey Alexander broke through and fooled the keeper into thinking she was for squaring the ball inside, instead she slotted nicely into the bottom corner to double the Ladies’ advantage. Shairee McVey then spilt the defence with a long pass for Alison Nicholl to run onto, finishing low into the corner to make it 3-0.

Lizzy McNougher tackling her marker and playing in Carla Dickie, who in turn with great control side stepped her marker and played in Abbey Alexander for her second goal of the game and Coleraine’s fourth. Chelsea Moore was introduced and added fresh legs to the attack. Ballymacash weren’t getting any joy down the middle so began to apply more pressure on the flanks which didn’t work either as Megan Alexander and Caitlin Gourey at full back more than stood up to the challenge.

When required in nets Carrie Doran didn’t disappoint coming of her line quickly to relieve any pressure. Neat play by Sam Miskimmon in midfield saw Alison Nicholl through again on goal to give Coleraine a 5-0 lead. With Coleraine fully in control, opportunities were given to 14 year-old pair Skye Strickland and Rachel Maddon to give them game time and experience coming up for the under 15’s, with both doing very well.

Coleraine Ladies would like to thank Aaron Dickie Photography for sponsoring a match ball to the sum of £50 as it’s much appreciated and all support is welcomed.
