Guest Speakers

WITH the new academic year up and running, our Full-Time BTEC students have been investigating possible careers in sport…

As part of their research in the sports industry, students have attended talks from ex-Northern Ireland International Women’s manager and current Head of Player Development for S3 Global, Alfie Wylie.

Alfie talked to students about his coaching career, the sacrifices he’s made along the way and helping to inspire and motivate students with his focus on ‘finding a passion’ and pursuing it with all that you have.

Next up was local hero and current first-team player Lyndon Kane. Lyndon gave the students an insight to his career to date, from his youth career to his first-team debut.

Lyndon spoke candidly about setbacks that he has encountered through three serious injuries, missing out on playing in Europe and the Irish Cup Final in 2018.

Lyndon also talked the students through his weekly training schedule, stressed the importance of preparation and rehab and gave advice on how to be successful in the first-team environment.

Player education Officer, Gary Devenney said: “I’d like to extend my thanks to both Alfie and Lyndon for giving up their time to speak with the students.

“Having access to individuals with such knowledge and experience will help to inspire and motivate students to achieve more.

“We look forward to the next few weeks and we continue to host career talks with other sports professionals, helping to broaden students of possible careers within the sports industry.”
