‘Hard work required’ – OK

COLERAINE will be looking for a much needed victory as they play host to Warrenpoint Town tomorrow afternoon (KO 3pm)…

Danske Bank Premiership

Overview:

Coleraine come into this weekend’s Danske Bank Premiership fixture in need of three points after four successive defeats. The Bannsiders have also failed to score in those four games and currently occupy 10th spot in the table after eight games.

The visitors have made a strong start to the 2020/21 campaign and will come into tomorrow’s clash full of confidence after registering back-to-back wins against Linfield and Carrick Rangers. The border club sit in 6th spot in the Premiership table.

Recent meetings:

Coleraine and Warrenpoint Town faced off on three occasions last season with the Bannsiders winning two and the Point the other. In October last year, a penalty from Ben Doherty had the Bannsiders well on their way, before Eoin Bradley netted a sublime free-kick before the break. There would be a late third from Doherty as he was on hand to pounce from close range after his penalty was saved by Berat Turker as Coleraine eased to all three points at The Showgrounds.

However, a month later, it was top versus bottom as Warrenpoint inflicted a first defeat of the season on Coleraine as a brace from Alan O’Sullivan – either side of Jamie Glackin’s equaliser – put ‘Point ahead, before Brandon Doyle sealed the win in stoppage time.

In January this year, Coleraine travelled to Milltown and it would prove to be a memorable day for Jamie Glackin as he netted a hat-trick with a fourth goal arriving from Matthew Fitzpatrick as the Stripes ran out 4-0 winners.

Manager’s Thoughts:

“We have to turn this around by hard work, graft and character more than anything else,” Kearney said.

“It’s as strong a squad as I’ve ever had at Coleraine and I told that to the players after the Dungannon game.

“We’ve had tough times in the past but I didn’t have such a strong squad as I do in there in terms of character and quality.

“We have a great changing room, a bunch of great people in there who have the club’s best interest at heart and who have had some fantastic memories in recent years and want more of that.”
