Higgins: Depth, personality and character important
RUAIDHRI Higgins says the Bannsiders’ last two victories have shown how there is ‘a personality and character’ within his group ahead of tonight’s showdown against Limavady United…
The two teams meet at The Showgrounds for the first league meeting between the pair in almost two decades.
Limavady make their way over the mountain buoyed by two wins in succession as they backed-up a triumph at Crusaders with a midweek victory at home to Bangor.
Coleraine have won their last five Premiership games – including Tuesday night’s late success against Glentoran – as two substitutes got on the scoresheet with Joe Thomson and Lewis McGregor finding the net.
With that in mind, Higgins knows that the Bannsiders will need everyone over the course of the season if they are to achieve their objectives.
“It’s been different ways to win football matches,” he said.
“I think winning late shows a couple of different things.
“I mentioned it after the game that it shows the depth that we have in the group but it also shows the personality and character we have within the group, which is really important.
“We will need that between now and the end of the season because it’s not always going to be vintage, it’s not always going to be comfortable and it’s when those games are tight, that we try to come out on top.
“I feel we deserved to win both games but it always doesn’t go the way you would hope but it’s then about getting it over the line when the game is in the balance and I think we’ve done that.”
Higgins believes the crowd can also have a massive part to play this afternoon by providing an atmosphere.
He added: “I know there’s an expectancy at this club now.
“As I said, our supporters have been amazing but I just want everyone to understand that this isn’t going to be a straightforward game.
“We need to understand that – our supporters, our players, our staff, everyone.
“It’s not going to be straightforward game, so we need energy on the pitch and in the stands.
“I think that’s going to be important as it’s our third game in quick succession, so we need energy on and off the pitch.”
