Irish Society win competition held at The Showgrounds

COLERAINE FC welcomed 200 players to The Showgrounds yesterday morning for the Community Schools’ Cup…

In our second year of hosting this, twenty local Primary Schools took part with players all from primary 4 and 5, and it was superb to see so much talent and skills out on the pitch.

After the group stages, quarter finals and semis, the final was played between St Malachy’s and the Irish Society. Both teams gave it their all but it was the Irish Society who eventually ran out victorious winning 2-0.

A huge well done to Irish Society and to all the players who took part in the competition. It was great to see so many children enjoying the experience of playing at The Showgrounds.

Thanks to everyone involved at the club for their help in facilitating the tournament. From William and Shauna to John on the sound system, our club stewards and Clement for obtaining a sponsor, coordinator Gary Devenney and his four BTEC students who refereed every match, Club Secretary Laura Lagan for all her help as ever, and of course, club first team player Conor McDermott for taking the time to come along to do our presentations.

We would like to place on record our thanks to The Bush Filling Station, Coleraine for being our sponsor this year.  It was greatly appreciated.

Finally, a thank you to all you players, coaches and supporters who made the tournament the special occasion that it was.
