Kane braced for ‘massive’ game
LYNDON Kane says the Bannsiders are approaching today’s game with a cup final feel as they welcome Portadown to The Showgrounds…
Coleraine know that if they can avoid defeat against their opponents this afternoon, then they will finish in the top-six for the post-split fixtures.
However, the skipper has targeted all three points – to not only secure the top-six berth – but to keep tabs on the teams above them in the table.
He said: “People are talking about a point being enough…but we are going into the game to win it.
“We don’t just want to finish, for example sixth, we see ourselves pushing up higher.
“The higher you finish in the league when it comes to the play-off situation, it can give you home advantage and stuff like that, so there’s still loads to play for.
“It’s not a nothing game…it’s massive for us and we are going to take it as it comes.”
Coleraine secured a 2-0 victory against Niall Currie’s men at the start of the month – but Kane stressed that he is expecting a response from the Ports this time around.
“They’ve got a good squad of players, they’ve got good experience in very good positions and I think the job Niall Currie has done is very, very good,” he added.
“They deserve to be where they are as the league table doesn’t lie.
“We played them here a couple of weeks ago but even listening to Niall’s interview after the game, he didn’t think the players did themselves justice and neither did I.
“We know they are going to come here with a completely different team this time around. It’s a massive game for both of us and it’s not often you have a situation where both teams are going for the same thing on the same day.
“It’s our cup final and we have been building on that mantra over the last six games.”
