Know the Glow

COLERAINE FC extends its best wishes to kitman Darrell Coyles who is raising funds for such a worthy cause…

Darrell will be accumulating 180 miles during the month of April to help raise funds and awareness on behalf of his nephew who was diagnosed with retinoblastoma.

Sharing the story on his Instagram account, Darrell revealed that all funds will go towards the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust.

“In October 2021, I received the most horrendous news I’ve ever experienced, my little nephew Cillian, one year old, was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma in his left eye.

“Cillian has been receiving chemotherapy treatment in Birmingham. My amazing brother Gary and partner Leonnie have been amazingly strong and courageous and have had to travel frequently to Birmingham from their home in Newcastle for Cillian’s treatment.

“The cancer, thankfully, is treatable and Cillian has been a warrior throughout this journey and it all came from my parents noticing ‘a glow’ from his left eye. I have felt like a useless uncle and it has been difficult to see those closest to me go through this.

“However, they have been doing great work online and are advocates for raising awareness for this cancer. Part of their process and my process is to help raise awareness about this and for all parents, carers etc to KNOW THE GLOW!

“Due to an injury I will be unable to run for a couple of weeks, however, I aim to bike, row or skip until my injury heals and I will complete 5k a day and try to accumulate 180 miles in the month of April.

“I want people to join me and help raise awareness of this awful condition and I will be raising money for Childhood Eye Cancer Trust.”

Coleraine FC is firmly behind Darrell’s efforts and those who wish to kindly donate can do so HERE.
