Ladies hit seven

COLERAINE Ladies fire seven goals past Belfast Swifts to make it four wins in a row…

The game started quickly and both sides started well playing attacking football, however Coleraine would open the scoring on 12 minutes. After a good run by Kirsty Gillis down the left hand side, her cross was finished at the back post by Olivia Stewart.

Coleraine were looking to settle having to adapt to playing on grass. Belfast Swifts were quick to reply getting play down their left hand side and they levelled after splitting the defence.

Both sides continued to have possession and Coleraine went ahead again on 39 minutes when Abby Alexander latched onto a through ball from Alison Nicholl in midfield to finish into the bottom right corner. Coleraine held the lead until half time as they looked composed on the ball despite attacks from the Swifts who were looking to get back into the game and were applying pressure.

After a tactical team talk at half time, Coleraine came out in the second half all fired up. On 52 minutes some good play by Sam Miskimmon set Abby free to outpace the defence and score her second of the game. Coleraine were now starting to dominate and a free kick taken by Abby’s twin sister Megan set her up for her hat-trick on 55 minutes.

The Bannsiders were rampant and the goals were coming thick and fast. Prolific goal scorer Abby Alexander got her fourth on 65 minutes when a ball from centre half Lizzie McNoughter again allowed her to outpace the defence for a cool finish for her fourth goal. Alison Nicholl made it 6-1 to Coleraine from a Kirsty Gillis pinpoint cross. Coleraine were playing some great attacking football and finding penetrating passes in the final third. Olivia Stewart got her brace on 77 minutes following up at the back post.

The game finished 7-1 to Coleraine who continue their winning streak in what was a fantastic team performance from all.

Next up for Coleraine is the Super Cup this evening away to Armagh (KO 7:15pm), before league action sees them take on Larne at Rugby Avenue this Thursday (KO 7:30pm).

Thanks to all the supporters on the sidelines.
