Report:

COLERAINE returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory against Carrick Rangers at The Showgrounds.

The Bannsiders would make three changes to their line-up as Adam Mullan, Aaron Jarvis and James McLaughlin were restored to the starting eleven.

The visitors started the better and missed a glorious chance to take the lead on 13 minutes. A neat passage of play involving Kyle Cherry and Reece Glendinning allowed Ben Tilney to go through on goal but the former Larne man was denied by a strong save from Gareth Deane.

Stuart King’s men would be ruing their luck on 21 minutes as they would spurn another chance as Cherry picked up possession after Jarvis went to ground. The midfielder had the vision to pick out the onrushing Jordan Gibson but his strike failed to test the Coleraine goal.

Those misses would prove to be costly five minutes later as the Bannsiders hit the front. A free-kick into the Carrick box by Jamie Glackin met the head of Rodney Brown who nodded home unmarked for his second goal of the campaign.

That would spark the hosts into life as they doubled their advantage on 37 minutes with Glackin the torment in chief yet again. A cross into the area by the silky midfielder forced Steven Gordon to put the ball into his own net.

Coleraine – who had not won their last seven Premiership contests – would have further chances to add to their tally as Curtis Allen hit straight down the throat of Matthew Skeet, before Glackin’s turn and shot failed to hit the target.

Oran Kearney’s men would be given the perfect opportunity to add a third from the spot after Lyndon Kane was brought down inside the area by Skeet. The full-back would pick up the ball and comfortably dispatch from 12 yards on 53 minutes.

The game would struggle to find any rhythm due to a series of substitutions with Coleraine carving out a half chance as Brown’s effort from a corner went straight into the arms of Skeet. At the other end, Gibson would let fly yet again but his effort deflected off Aaron Traynor and away to safety.

A comfortable win for Coleraine who now face a big week against Glentoran and Linfield.
