A goal in each half would condemn the Bannsiders to a defeat at Inver Park in October…

Date:

Result:

Larne 2-0 Coleraine

Goals – Millar (‘6 mins), O’Neill (’82 mins)

Report:

COLERAINE would lose on the road for a second successive game as a goal in each half gave Larne a 2-0 victory at Inver Park.

The Bannsiders would make a bright start and threatened after just three minutes as wonderful ball by Conor McKendry sent Jamie Glackin through on goal. The midfielder would hesitate before hitting a strike that was deflected by Shaun Want.

That missed chance would come back to haunt the Stripes as Larne took the lead on five minutes. A cross into the box by Tomas Cosgrove met the head of Leroy Millar who duly dispatched beyond the reach of Martin Gallagher.

Coleraine enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening 45 minutes but failed to overly test Rohan Ferguson, with Matthew Shevlin having a goal disallowed after the ball was adjudged to have gone out before McKendry centred the ball.

Before the half-time whistle, a corner kick into the box was headed towards goal by Cian Bolger with Millar’s header going straight down the throat of Gallagher.

Larne would carve out the first chance of the second-half as a through ball released Paul O’Neill inside the area. The striker would send a goal bound effort from an acute angle towards the net but Gallagher stood firm to palm away.

Bannsiders boss Oran Kearney made a triple substitution by bringing on Evan McLaughlin, Jack O’Mahony and Michael McCrudden but it would the Inver Reds who would have the next sight of goal as Lee Bonis’ free-kick zipped by the far post.

The introduction of McCrudden almost proved to be a golden touch as he saw an effort deflected wide before the same player drilled a shot towards goal that had to be held by Ferguson.

After Shea Gordon sent an effort over the crossbar, Bonis would go close to making 2-0 as a deflected cross met the ex-Portadown man but he couldn’t direct his header on goal.

However, Larne would double their advantage on 83 minutes as a long ball forward wasn’t defended by the Bannsiders and O’Neill punished that mistake by finishing with aplomb.
