Report:

COLERAINE recovered from two goals behind at the break to earn a deserved draw against Glentoran at The Showgrounds…

Coleraine boss Oran Kearney made one alteration to the side that defeated Linfield in midweek as Gareth McConaghie replaced the injured Lyndon Kane in defence, with Adam Mullan deputising at right-back.

The Bannsiders thought they had taken the lead after just three minutes as a high ball landed at the feet of Jamie Glackin but his instinctive volley sailed inches wide of the post.

However, it would be the visitors who would strike first as a Coleraine clearance hit referee Tony Clarke and landed at the feet of Stephen Lowry who was under pressure. The midfielder was robbed in possession by John Herron who squared the ball for Robbie McDaid to slam home on 13 minutes.

The home side tried to respond as Ben Doherty slipped the ball out wide to Josh Carson but his effort was easily gathered by Marijan Antolovic. At the other end, Glentoran worked the ball well to find Marcus Kane at the edge of the box and his arrowed strike had to be deflected wide.

On 35 minutes, Coleraine would be the architect of their downfall as they fell further behind. A pass from Gareth McConaghie to Aaron Canning was read by Paul O’Neill who was able to prod home the rebound after his initial attempt was blocked by Stephen Lowry.

Kearney shuffled his pack at the start of the second-half as James McLaughlin was introduced from the bench as Coleraine went into a 3-5-2 formation.

The Stripes needed a lifeline to get back into the match and it duly arrived on 48 minutes as Glentoran clearance landed at the feet of Aaron Jarvis and his 30-yard found the back of the net via the post. The home side almost grabbed an equaliser when McLaughlin’s turn and shot went inches over the bar, before Glackin’s drive was saved by Antolovic.

The second-half was becoming one-way traffic and on 68 minutes Antolovic made a contender for save of the season as he was on hand to prevent McLaughlin scoring from a close range header. Two minutes later, Glackin picked out McLaughlin inside the area but the Ballymoney man failed to find the target. There would be further frustration on 72 minutes as Canning’s long throw was flicked on by Bradley into the path of Jarvis who could only fire wide.

The equaliser was coming and it duly arrived on 76 inutes as Glackin’s corner kick found Jarvis and he expertly guided the ball into the bottom corner via the post. The visitors’ best chance after the break landed at the feet of Darren Murray seven minutes from time but he failed to test Chris Johns.

At the death, both teams had one final chance to earn all three points as Doherty’s effort was straight down the throat of Antolovic, before Navid Nasseri was prevented from getting a shot on goal after a timely block from Aaron Traynor.
