COLERAINE extended their stay at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership as a double from Stephen Lowry sealed all three points at Stangmore Park…

Bannsiders boss Oran Kearney made four changes from the win at Dundela as Aaron Traynor, Stephen Lowry, Jamie Glackin and Eoin Bradley were restored to the starting line-up.

On a wet day in County Tyrone, it would be Coleraine who would threaten first as Bradley slipped the ball into the path of Doherty, but the midfielder’s effort was deflected inches over the crossbar. Moments later, the hosts were dealt with a blow on six minutes as Daniel Hughes went down injured in a tackle with Traynor and wasn’t able to continue.

The game finally sparked into life on 28 minutes as Coleraine took the lead. A ball forward by Aaron Canning was expertly controlled by Bradley and his lay-off was met by Lowry who found the bottom corner. It wasn’t the cleanest of strikes but Swifts ‘keeper Sam Johnston appeared to get his feet caught on the grass.

Kearney’s troops almost made it a quickfire double as Bradley’s 25-yard free-kick sailed inches wide of the post with Johnston rooted to the spot. Just before the half-time whistle, the Bannsiders would be left frustrated once again as neat football resulted in Doherty crossing for Jarvis and his goal bound effort was blocked on the line by Swifts midfielder Douglas Wilson.

Coleraine would have to shuffle their pack early in the second-half as Josh Carson limped off injured after being in a tackle with Alan Teggart and was replaced by James McLaughlin.

However, the second goal duly arrived on 59 minutes as a deep cross into Dungannon’s box found Jarvis and his header was expertly tipped to safety by Johnston. The ball landed at the feet of Lowry and he rifled home his second of the afternoon despite the best efforts of Dylan King on the line.

Ten minutes later, Johnston would be called into action once again to deny Coleraine a third as he made a world-class save to tip Jarvis’ long-range effort onto the crossbar. The best chance the home side could muster in 90 minutes arrived just before the end as Kris Lowe fired over the crossbar when well positioned inside the box.

A solid afternoon’s work for Coleraine who still lead the Danske Bank Premiership by a point.
