COLERAINE FC Women’s first-team made the journey to Belfast last night to take on a determined and energetic 22nd Ladies side in what proved to be a challenging outing for the visitors…
From the opening whistle, the hosts signalled their intent, pressing high and applying early pressure that tested Coleraine’s midfield and defensive lines.
Despite Coleraine’s efforts to gain control in a fast-paced, end-to-end opening 30 minutes, it was 22nd Ladies who broke the deadlock — and once they did, they didn’t look back.
In a rapid turn of events, 22nd Ladies found the net three times in quick succession before the half-time whistle, to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.
The second-half saw a revitalised Coleraine side emerge, displaying resilience and composure. Their build-up play from the back and transitions through midfield, in particular Lucy Hollies who had her head to every ball, showed promise with several impressive passages of play up the flanks.
However, despite the improved tempo and effort, the breakthrough goal never came. As the clock ticked down, 22nd Ladies added a fourth goal, putting the result beyond doubt and sealing a well-earned victory on home turf.
While the scoreline may not have reflected the full story of the match, Coleraine can take positives from a spirited second-half performance.
Thanks to 22nd Ladies for hosting, and we wish them the best of luck for the remainder of their season.
