Loan Report

COLERAINE currently have six players out on loan and here is a monthly round-up of how they performed in March…

Cathair Friel is enjoying a short-term loan spell at Portadown, whilst Caiolan Brennan and Lewis Tosh are plying their trade at Limavady United for the season.

Similarly, Alexander Gawne is spending the season at Carrick Rangers alongside James McLaughlin, whilst Ronan Wilson is also at H&W Welders for the 2022/23 campaign.


The striker joined Portadown on loan in the January transfer window after completing a temporary spell at Institute.

Friel started all three of Portadown’s fixtures in March as they won one, drew one and lost one.

Portadown produced a mammoth comeback to beat Newry City, drew with Crusaders and lost to Carrick Rangers.

Brennan is currently enjoying his second loan spell at Limavady United and played twice during the month of March.

Paul Owens side beat Tobermore United and Portstewart, drew with Lisburn Distillery and lost to Queen’s University in the Lough41 Intermediate.

United currently find themselves fourth in the table.

This is Lewis’ first season in senior football and he continues to gain valuable experience in the process.

Toshy started all four of Limavady’s games in the Lough41 Intermediate.

The left-sided player netted a deadly brace in a 5-0 away win against Tobermore United.

Wilson was absent in January and February but has since returned to action for H&W Welders.

The Welders were knocked out of the Irish Cup by Larne and also lost in the Lough41 Championship to Ballinamallard United.

However, the Welders would pick up seven points from their other three games and Wilson started one and was a used substitute three times during the month.

Carrick Rangers were in action five times during March – with Alex starting three of those contests and being a used substitute in the other two.

The Amber Army sealed wins against Portadown and Dungannon Swifts but lost twice to Glentoran and against Crusaders.

Stuart King’s side are eighth in the table as the chase for a last European qualifying spot heats up.

James McLaughlin joined Carrick Rangers on loan until the end of the season in the January transfer window.

The striker made three substitute appearances for the Amber Army and was an unused substitute in another.

He is still awaiting his first goal for Carrick Rangers.
