Match Action vs Glenavon

HIGHLIGHTS from the Bannsiders’ 2-0 win against Glenavon can now be viewed on the club’s official YouTube account…

The Bannsiders would secure their passage through to the Sixth Round of the Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Irish Cup as a first-half goal from Jamie Glackin had the visitors well on their way, before Eoin Bradley netted with little over ten minutes to go.

After threatening through Bradley inside the first five minutes, Coleraine would hit the front as Ian Parkhill picked out Bradley at the edge of the area. The striker looked up and found the run of Jamie Glackin who had the strength to outmuscle Rhys Marshall, take the ball around Johnny Tuffey and tap into an empty net.

The Stripes would have further chances to extend their lead before the half-time whistle as McLaughlin fired wide, before the same player took a fantastic first touch and cut inside, but his effort failed to test Tuffey. At the other end, Glenavon midfielder Sammy Clingan forced Chris Johns into tipping his free-kick over the bar.

The Lurgan Blues would make a bright start to the second-half and missed chances to equalise through Sammy Clingan and Dylan Davidson who went close, with Coleraine threatening at the other end as McLaughlin failed to test Tuffey from Ian Parkhill’s cut back.

Coleraine survived a scare just after the hour mark as Andrew Mitchell’s cross found Josh Daniels six yards from goal, and just when it looked like his header would ripple the net, the ball cannoned off the crossbar as the Bannsiders survived.

Oran Kearney’s men would seal the win on 77 minutes as Clingan’s underhit backpass was seized upon by Bradley who rounded Tuffey and slotted home. There would be one late chance for substitute Alexander Gawne who rolled his marker before testing the Lurgan Blues stopper.
