Match Highlights vs Carrick Rangers

HIGHLIGHTS from the Bannsiders’ win against Carrick Rangers are now available to watch on the club’s official YouTube channel…

The Bannsiders would make it six successive wins in the Danske Bank Premiership as a goal in the second-half from Aaron Canning edged out a resolute Carrick Rangers defence at The Showgrounds.

Oran Kearney made four changes to his starting line-up and it took until the 10th minute for the first chance to arrive as James McLaughlin’s dangerous cross was expertly steered over his own crossbar by ‘Gers defender Steven Gordon. Four minutes later, a deep delivery into the box by Ben Doherty was headed wide by Canning.

After a change of linesman due to injury, the Stripes would carve out two further opportunities before the break as McLaughlin’s goal bound strike was blocked by Chris Rodgers, before Doherty arrowed wide after being found via a great through ball from Stephen Lowry.

Coleraine made two substitutions at the break but it would be Carrick who would threaten first as neat play involving Lloyd Anderson and Cathair Friel resulted in Daniel Kelly firing a strike over the crossbar. Just after the hour mark, the hosts would be left frustrated as Jamie Glackin looked to have been fouled in the box but referee Evan Boyce didn’t point to the spot.

However, the deadlock was broken on 76 minutes as a corner kick found the head of Stephen O’Donnell, and after his effort cannoned the crossbar, Canning was alert to blast home the rebound for his first goal of the season. Soon after, Aaron Hogg was called into action to produce a marvellous save from Eoin Bradley’s close range strike.
