Match Highlights vs Cliftonville

COLERAINE TV highlights from the Bannsiders’ win against Cliftonville are now available to watch on the club’s official YouTube account…

Oran Kearney’s men would record all three points as a brace of penalties from Ben Doherty saw off the challenge of Cliftonville at The Showgrounds.

The deadlock was broken on 16 minutes as Reds stopper Aaron McCarey was adjudged to have fouled Matthew Shevlin inside the box. Up-stepped Doherty who comfortably dispatched from 12 yards.

Despite the visitors enjoying a lot of possession, Coleraine looked more threatening as Eoin Bradley sliced wide from outside the box, before James McLaughlin’s 35-yard effort cannoned off the crossbar.

At the other end, Coleraine had a scare as Daniel Kearns’ terrific cross just missed a vital touch which surely would have levelled the scores.

Cliftonville made a bright start to the second half with plenty of attacking endeavour but they would concede a second penalty just after the hour mark as ‘keeper McCarey was dismissed for bringing down Shevlin yet again. The ever calm and composed Doherty held his nerve to blast home his second goal of the game.

Late on, the Stripes almost added a third as Jamie Glackin’s cross found the head of McLaughlin but it wasn’t to be his day as he rattled the crossbar for a second time.
