The Lurgan Blues would make a bright start at a sunny Showgrounds and tested Gareth Deane after only two minutes as the shot stopper was called into action to keep out Andy Hall’s free-kick.

Just before the half hour mark, the visitors thought they had taken the lead as a deep cross by Peter Campbell was met by Hall at the back post. Just when it looked like he was certain to find the back of the net, an alert Deane was on hand to thwart his effort.

There would be further half chances before the interval as Parkhill struck straight at the ‘keeper, before Matthew Snoddy and Greg Moorhouse failed to hit the target at the other end.

Coleraine were much improved after the break and carved out an opportunity on 47 minutes as Craig Hyland saved from Josh Carson, with the ball being cleared just before Curtis Allen had a tap-in.

On 64 minutes, the Bannsiders were a width of the post from making the breakthrough as Eoin Bradley’s free-kick cannoned off the upright, and after the ball deflected off Allen, the ball somehow landed in the gloves of Hyland.

The post would come to Glenavon’s rescue on 74 minutes as Stewart Nixon’s daisy cutter hit the woodwork, but Gary Hamilton’s side should have profited from a poor clearance from Lyndon Kane as Owen Taylor fired wide.

There would be one final chance for the Bannsiders as a neat passage of play released Josh Carson inside the box. The ex-Northern Ireland international lobbed the ball over Hyland but Sean Ward was on hand to clear the ball from the goal mouth.
