Coleraine would pick up back-to-back wins in the Sports Direct Premiership following the 2-0 success at the Newry Showgrounds.

The game would have a big talking point with just seven minutes on the clock as Newry defender Stephen Moan was dismissed for a robust tackle on Andy Scott.

However, despite having a man less, Newry created several big chances as Ciaran O’Connor and Barney McKeown both struck the post, whilst Ryan McGivern’s header was tipped over the bar by Gareth Deane.

Coleraine would break the deadlock in first-half stoppage time as a long ball forward was kept alive by Matthew Shevlin and Conor McKendry was in the right place at the right time to pounce from close range.

On 57 minutes, the Stripes would strengthen their advantage as Shevlin was once again involved as he attempted to release McKendry inside the box. A loose ball wasn’t dealt with by City and McKendry showed his predatory instincts to tap the ball into the net.

Both teams would have chances thereafter as Daniel Hughes went close to converting Adam Salley’s cross, whilst at the other end, Scott and Darren Cole both had shots blocked by a determined Newry defence.
