HIGHLIGHTS from the Bannsiders’ win against Portadown are now available to watch on the club’s official YouTube channel…
The Bannsiders would cut the gap at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership to two points as a penalty in each half from Ben Doherty sealed the win at The Showgrounds.
After Curtis Allen and Doherty went close to opening the scoring, the deadlock was broken on 10 minutes as Coleraine were awarded a penalty when Greg Hall was adjudged to have handled inside the box. The ball was picked up by Doherty who comfortably dispatched from 12 yards.
However, Portadown grew into the contest and missed a big chance to equalise as Lee Bonis fired wide when clean through on goal, before his strike partner Adam Salley ought to have scored when Gareth Deane parried a well driven effort from Bonis.
The second-half didn’t have many clear cut chances, however, Jamie Glackin fired straight at Jacob Carney before the same player saw his cut back cannon off the post. At the other end, Portadown midfielder Oisin Conaty would see a long range effort sail wide.
Referee Ross Dunlop would point to the spot for a second time as Eoin Bradley was fouled inside the box by Hall. The confident Doherty once again kept his cool to fire home as Coleraine made it 13 games unbeaten.
