COLERAINE finish a busy week by hosting Glenavon this afternoon as our November schedule begins…
SPORTS DIRECT PREMIERSHIP
Overview:
Coleraine were in action in midweek as they battled from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Linfield at a sold-out Showgrounds. After trailing 2-0 at the break, Matthew Shevlin netted his 100th Coleraine goal to reduce the arrears before Charles Dunne bagged his maiden strike to earn a share of the spoils. Ruaidhri Higgins’ men remain at the summit of the Premiership table on goal difference.
Glenavon are now managed by former Coleraine assistant Michael O’Connor. The former Lurgan Blues player has helped the County Armagh side pick up their sole victory in the Premiership this term after a 1-0 success against Carrick Rangers recently. However, they come into today’s game after being edged out by Dungannon Swifts last weekend. O’Connor’s men will travel to Newry City in round two of the BetMcLean Cup on Tuesday night.
Previous Meetings:
Coleraine and Glenavon met each other back in August in the Premiership.
- August 23, 2025 (SDP) – Glenavon 1 (McGovern ’71 mins); Coleraine 2 (Long ’43 mins & Shevlin ’90 mins)
Assistant Coach’s Thoughts:
“If you look at the squad they have there, it’s a really strong squad,” Loughrey said.
“They’ve obviously had a disappointing start for them this season, but they have good players in the dressing room, they have good characters.
“They have a new manager and now they’ll be looking for a reaction.
“Listen, we’re preparing for a really difficult game here. We know they’re going to come and try and have a go and hopefully it makes for a good game.”
